  • noun A genus of hystricomorphic rodent mammals, of the family Octodontidæ and subfamily Echinomyinæ, or hedgehog-rats, peculiar to the island of Cuba, where two species occur, C. pilorides and C. prehensilis, called respectively the hutia-conga or pilori-rat and the hutia-carabali.
