  • noun A plate or block so placed as to be caught by a claw when the latter reaches a certain position. Such a part is used on many forms of tripping-valve gear.
  • noun A small face-plate used on a lathe to carry a pin which engages a straight-tailed dog and so drives the piece to be turned.
