  • In rare/antique books and papermaking, chain lines are evenly spaced, faint lines impressed into paper pulp by the dandy roll during production; they're made by chain wires around the circumference of the roll that secure laid wires to the roll. Laid wires make lighter laid line marks on the paper, perpendicular to chain lines.
