Definitions

from The Century Dictionary.

  • An order of the class Arachnida, containing the false scorpions or pseudoscorpions, having the abdomen segmented, indistinctly separated from the cepha-lothorax, and without the appendage with its poisonous sting which characterizes the true scorpions.
  • Like the Spiders the Cheliferidea are provided with silk-glands, and unlike the Scorpions, which they externally resemble, they have neither a postabdomen nor poison-glands. They breathe by tracheæ. These Arachnids are of small size, and are found chiefly in caverns and damp places in temperate countries.
