Definitions

  • noun In the mountains of Bolivia and Peru, one of the aboriginal towers used partly as burial-places, but also as the abodes of the people, who buried their dead under the floors while continuing to occupy the building, as the forest tribes of the upper Amazon do to-day. Some of these stone towers are handsomely constructed, and these were used chiefly for burial.
