  • noun A genus of birds of Paradise, of the family Paradiseidæ and subfamily Paradiseinæ, having the two middle tail-feathers long-exserted in the form of naked wiry shafts coiled at the end into a scorpioid or cincinnal racket which bears vanes, whence the name.
