- noun Any one of an extensive series of compounds, the salts of which, obtained by the action of ammonia on salts of cobalt, in some cases with access of oxygen, are of much interest to the scientific chemist. They include diammines, triammines, tetrammines, pentammines, and hexammines, partly distinguished by characteristic colors.
