- noun A family of Protozoa, of the order Flagellata, having either a colored or a colorless body, usually compressed laterally, without true cuticle, with two long anterior flagella, and the anterior end obliquely truncated. It includes Chilomonas, Cyathomonas, Cryptomonas, and Oxyrrhis.
