from The Century Dictionary.
- noun In pulmonale gastropods, the sac which secretes and contains the love-dart, or spiculum amoris; a thick-walled eversible appendage of the generative apparatus of the snail, in which the love-darts are molded as calcareous concretions, and from which they are ejected.
Sorry, no etymologies found.
The dart is contained in a dart-sac, which is attached as a sort of pocket to the vagina, at no great distance from its orifice.
Besides the fact of the position of the dart-sac anatomically, we find that the darts are extended and become imbedded in the flesh, just before or during the act of copulation.
