  • noun An apparatus for measuring the depth of a hole or recess, or the distance from a plain surface to a projecting point.
  • noun An attachment to a drill or other boring-tool so adjusted that when the desired depth has been reached a rod rests on the surface of the work and prevents the cutter from entering farther.
