Definitions

from The Century Dictionary.

  • noun An aquatic spider, Argyroneta aquatica, which builds its nest under water, and habitually dives to reach it, carrying down bubbles of air, with which it fills its nest on the principle of the diving-bell. It is thus enabled to remain under water, though fitted only for breathing air. See cut under Argyroneta.
