Donald was one of my sister's boyfriends when I was still in high school and she was still being lusted after. I only met him a few times. The last time he was at our house he left me a cassette tape he had compiled for me. Entitled 'Social Comment Music' it included: Bob Dylan; Crosby, Stills and Nash; Muddy Waters; Neil Young; Joan Baez; Tom Waits; Steven Stills; John Mellencamp; Freddy Neill.
The cassette doesn't work any more, not because it faded into arthritic obscurity but because I played it to billy-oh. I loved that tape in so many ways. Donald White gave me a 90-minute, double-sided ticket to adulthood and a lesson in how to weep for beings I never met. Thank you Donald, wherever you are.
