- noun In botany, a suffix used chiefly in the formation of tribal names and the names of other groups between the genus and the order. It also occurs as the termination of some ordinal names.
- noun In zoology, the termination of the names of various taxonomic groups: regularly, of groups between the genus and the subfamily; irregularly, of different groups above the family. In both cases -eæ is used without implication of gender.
