• noun A genus of Indian colubriform serpents of the subfamily Dasypeltinæ, having esophageal teeth formed by enameled processes of cervical vertebræ projecting into the gullet (as in the genus Dasypeltis), but smooth scales, head little distinct from the body, a grooved maxillary tooth, and a loreal plate. E. westermanni is an example.
