  • In Cuvier's system of classification, the second family of Malacopterygii abdominales, without adipose dorsal fin, with short intestine having no cæca, and the edge of the upper jaw formed by the intermaxillary, or, when not thus formed, the maxillary edentulous, and concealed in the thickness of the lips.
