  • Noting an acid, an orange-yellow compound, (CH3O)6C19H8O3, formed by the oxidation of wood-tar oil containing pyrogallol and methyl pyrogallol ethers. It crystallizes in long hair-like needles, melts at 200° C., and is dibasic. Also called pittacal.
