  • noun A term in lithology proposed by Vogelsang, and used by him in a classification of the quartz porphyries into three divisions, granophyre, felsophyre, and vitrophyre, according as the ground-mass is crystalline-granular, imperfectly individualized (or felsitic, as he used that term), or glassy.
