I have never had a problem with any of my gibsons (or epiphones for that matter) that I have not caused myself.

The only complaint I have about the finish is with the neck, but I have encountered this on gibsons and higher priced epiphones as well, if your hands are too dry or slightly damp you tend to drag on the neck.

Registered User probably sounds like any 70s / 80s hard rock / blues rock sound you've heard, for the most part. i haven't personally played those, but i imagine they sound rather great, being more of a standard on mid to high level gibsons. i believe most of Angus's SGs use those, since he perfers the stock SGs, and his tone is rather desirable, albeit a simple one. i'd go for it.
