People have this reverence for Foster Wallace's grammarianism, but this is no different than people's reverence for grammar-advice textbooks; as has been pointed out many times on this blog, this is a symptom of people's ignorance of the way language actually works combined with the anxiety left over from grade school that they are doing things wrong.
