I can't imagine taking a rifle like this afield and I doubt it would leave the vault, but it is a fine example of craftsmanship and I'm very curious which gunsmiths were involved, what the components are, and I hope to learn more details which I will share with the forum.

On Monday, I stopped by the Leupold & Stevens corporate campus in Beaverton (Oregon) and there was a fine rifle on display in th 2010

Like alabaoutlaw stated, most gunsmiths that I have had the honor of getting to know have had quite extensive backgrounds in the metal machining trade.

I'm thinking about gunsmithing as a trade I've been a carpenter for 30years 10 of that as a builder.Home building is flat,I need 2010

I found a guy there (whose name escapes me) who personally knew P.O. Ackley (the man who invented the .257 AI, 7x57 AI and 280 AI and many other cartridges, and who was among the 20th century's most knowledgable gunsmiths/gunmakers/cartridge gurus).

However, it seems that gunsmiths who specialize in turning out super accurate rifles seem to prefer the Remington actions, when these are the three choices.

Ruger m77, Remington m700, Winchester m70- which of them do you think is the best all-around rifle? I say the Remington 700. 2009

I do not shop there and support our local gunsmiths instead.
