- In the classification of De Candolle, Gray, and others, a tribe or suborder of plants, of the natural order Hamamelideæ, embracing the genera Hamamelis, Fothergilla, etc., and distinguished from the Balsamifluæ, to which Liquidambar belongs, by their one-ovuled cells and more apparent floral envelops.
