  • Because of this pledge, Moses had to return to Midian after he had been sent to Egypt, as it is said (Ex. 4: 18): “Moses went back to his father-in-law Jether [yeter],” from which the Rabbis learn that Moses went to Egypt, but returned to Midian to be released from (le-hatir) his vow (Ex.
