• noun A genus of monocotyledonous plants, founded by Linnæus in 1753, belonging to the natural order Liliaceæ, tribe Narthecieæ, with petioled radical leaves, those of the stem few and small, small flowers in dense racemes, the stamens little longer than the perianth, and three very short styles.
