• noun A genus of dicotyledonous apetalous plants, belonging to the natural order Santalaceæ, tribe Osyrideæ, with monœcious or diœcious flowers, the lobes of the perianth 5 or 6 in number and open to the epigynous disk, an inferior ovary, the stamens. 5 or 6 in number and inserted at the base of and opposite to the perianth-lobes, and drupaceous 1-seeded fruit.
• noun A genus of plants, of the natural order Lythrarieæ, referred by Bentham and Hooker to the genus Crypteronia of the same order.
