I have worked on deployment in an as heroku and mongohq are both running in amazons cloud (the do, or?), you can probably change the host to the following: aws. mongohq.com maybe this speeds up the communication between these both as the request is handled internally without leaving the amazon cloud.

If you don't use heroku, and control the infrastructure (may set ssh keys), this approach is better, IMO: bundler guide, it's a great improvement!!
