- noun The class name of sugars which contain eighteen atoms of carbon in the molecule and are capable of resolution into three molecules of a sugar which contains six atoms of carbon in the molecule. Thus raffinose is a hexotriose and may be decomposed into equal molecules of fructose (levulose), glucose, and galactose.
