• noun A small genus of dicotyledonous polypetalous plants, of the natural order Caryophyllaceæ, tribe Alsineæ, allied very closely to the genus Cerastium, the mouse-ear chickweed, from which it differs in having dorsally compressed seeds fixed by their face, and umbelliform cymes.
