  • A family of turdoid passerine birds, the dippers or water-ouzels, named from the genus Hydrobata: a synonym of Cinclidœ. See cuts under Cinclidœ and dipper.
  • A family of heteropterous insects, of elongate form, with the head sunken in the thorax up to the prominent rounded eyes, reflexed rostrum, 4-jointed antennæ, and inconspicuous ocelli if any. They live on the surface of the water, and are collectively called water-striders.
