At some point, Leaellynasaura, a Lower Cretaceous hypsilophodontid from Victoria, Australia, was described as a carnivore when it, like all hypsilophodontids, is actually an herbivore.
According to a report in New Scientist, fossils from "Dinosaur Cove" in Victoria show that small plant-eating dinosaurs called hypsilophodontids were common in the area about 110 million years ago, a time when the region was within the Antarctic Circle.
Certain groups also appear more predisposed to overwintering based on their physical inability related to biomechanics, natural history, or absolute size to migrate, such as ankylosaurs and many small taxa, including hypsilophodontids and troodontids.
