I strongly suspect idefrag would be faster but it costs money. superduper is shareware and CCCloner is freeware.

Thanks for the response. i've never used idefrag - there is normally no need to defrag OS X drives so i can't say for sure.

Any software installed that could prevent that? that message means that the disk is too fragmented and disk utility can not find big enough contiguous piece of free space to create the bootcamp partition. you can try choosing to make smaller bootcamp partition. otherwise you need to defrag the drive. how much free space do you have on it btw? the safest way to defrag the main drive is to clone it to an external using disk cccloner or superduper, boot from the external, reformat the internal and clone the external back. or you can try using 3rd party defragging software like idefrag. but cloning is much safer.

i do have mac janitor, idefrag, leopard cashe cleaner.
