- adj. Within the (cavity of the) tympanum
from The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- Situated or occurring within the tympanic cavity or drum of the ear.
Using an approach called intratympanic (IT) injection, otolaryngologists deposit the drug into the middle ear via a small perforation in the tympanic membrane (eardrum).
Called intratympanic treatments, this method delivers a high concentration of drug to the affected area, avoiding the systemic effects of steroids, which can include mood changes, insomnia and weight gain.
