  • The "stupid" part was never directed at either Bush (sr.) or the voters. The phrase is based on the common American slogan from the 1980s, frequently seen on buttons and bumper stickers, usually as the intriguing acronym "K.I.S.S.": "Keep it simple, stupid." I am not sure where this slogan originated, but my guess would be from some advice book for business people with pointers for making a more effective presentation.
