• noun Any one of several species of large Brazilian trees belonging to the genus Cariniana, of the family Lecythidaccæ; especially C. Brasiliensis and C. excelsa. They yield an astringent bark useful in bowel complaints, and a highly prized hard, tough, durable wood.
