  • A family of acanthopterygian fishes, typified by the genus Latilus, with an elongated compressed body, compressed head, a very long dorsal fin whose foremost rays only are spinose, an elongated anal fin, normal pectorals with branched rays, and thoracic or subjugular perfect ventral fins.
