  • A type of fishing net utilizing a slingshot-shaped frame made of willow upon which a net was suspended; the "handle" of the "y", called a rock staff, was constructed of ash or willow with the hinged willow arms (called rimes) outstretched during fishing by a wooden spreader piece. The outspread nets were dipped into the outgoing tide to catch the fish (salmon) returning to the sea with the tide. See putcher.
