- noun In cloth-shearing machines, the fixed straight-edged blade which co-acts with a spiral blade or blades on a revolving cylinder, upon the principle of a shears, and which trims off so much of the nap from cloth as to reduce it to a uniform length and give an even surface to the fabric.
