  • In ornithology: In Merrem's classification, a group of birds, including the toucans, parrots, and some others, approximately equivalent to the order Psittaci plus the family Rhamphastidæ of modern authors.
  • In Blyth's system (1846), a series or superfamily group of his Picoides, consisting of the toucans, touracous, and colies, or Rham-phastidæ, Musophagidæ, and Coliidæ.
