  • noun A form of tide-gage, first devised by Forel and Sarasin for recording small oscillations in Swiss lakes and applied by Nakamura and Yoshida to tidal oscillations in Japanese harbors; specifically, Sarasin's limnometer of 1901, which is properly a limnograph (which see).
