Also liquidification = capital intensive + subsidies + centralization = profits/rents (including distribution grid) + easy transition for existing corps Exxon/Mobil.
Any new coal burning technology, whether it be liquidification or otherwise, would surely rely on the continuation of such brutal methods of extraction, and carbon output would still be significant.
I kinda like calling coal liquidification “Hitler’s Final Solution” for the lack of standard petroleum within their borders.
