  • noun A carrier-shell; a looping-snail; a ptenoglossate gastropod of the family Xenophoridæ, as Xenophora conchyliophora: so called from its habit of carrying about bits of shell, coral, or rock affixed to the substance of its shell. See cut under carrier-shell.
