- noun A salt of metavanadic acid, as sodium metavanadate, NaVO3, and ammonium metavanadate, NH4VO3. The latter of these gives a deep-black color with tincture of galls which has been proposed for use as writing-ink; it has also been used in the development of aniline black on cotton cloth.
