  • In entom.: The name given by Gravenhorst in 1802 to the rove-beetles (Staphylinidæ) and their allies, on account of the shortness of the wing-covers. They are now called Brachelytra.
  • A group of dipterous insects named by Robineau-Desvoidy in 1830.
