- noun In naval architecture, the line formed by the intersection of a transverse vertical plane at the middle of the length of a vessel with the surface of the hull; also, a plan of this transverse section on which is delineated the arrangement of the structural parts of the vessel, and on which arc marked in great detail the sizes or scantlings of all the structural parts.
