  • noun A head or disk of glass, metal, or pottery attached to a long screw or spike, formerly inserted into a wall to form a rest for a mirror or picture-frame. The metal knobs were frequently embellished with painted or enameled medallions, while those of glass were usually pressed into decorative patterns.
