• noun A small marsupial which has the Habits and very much the appearance of a small mole and which inhabits the desert regions of central South Australia. It is of a pale yellow color, with a horny shield on the nose, and a bare, leathery tail. Only about a dozen specimens of the animal, which has been named Notoryctes typhlops, have been found. It is the type of the family Notoryctidæ.
