  • noun Cuvier's eleventh family (in French Mugiloïdes) of Acanthopterygii, comprising forms with the ventral fins abdominal or subabdominal in position, two dorsal fins, and small teeth. It included the Mugilidæ, Tetragonuridæ, and Atherinidæ of subsequent systems.
