From Latin mundātio ("cleaning"), from mundō ("I make clean"), from mundus ("clean, neat, elegant"), from Proto-Indo-European *mū-, *mewə- (“to wash, wet”). Cognate with Dutch mooi ("nice, beautiful, sheen").
