  • noun A tribe of shrubs and trees of the order Myrtaceæ, typified by the genus Myrtus, and characterized by an ovary of two or more cells, the fruit an indehiscent berry or drupe, and the leaves opposite and dotted. It includes 18 genera, among them Eugenia (clove, etc.) and Psidium (guava).
