  • noun A genus of tropical monocotyledonous plants of the order Bromeliaceæ and the tribe Bromelieæ, known by its free sepals, partly coherent petals, involucral leaves, and anthers attached by their back. By Bentham and Hooker it is made part of the genus Karatas. See karatas and silk-grass.
