This is a neat, finely-decussated, concolorous species, with the upper whorls nodulous from erosion, as in Vivipara praerosa, Gerst.
Upon this follow beds of sand and sandstone, varying in the regularity of their strata, reddish in color, often highly ferruginous, and more or less nodulous or porous.
Shell ovate, oblique, having an irregular nodulous line near the middle from the beaks to the basal margin; valves thick; umbonial slope irregularly wrinkled; rays small and numerous; cardinal teeth rather small; lateral teeth long and nearly straight; nacre milk white.
